Our high-level keynotes and sessions, held from 2-4 September, will show best practices management approaches and cutting-edge research to strengthen governance for sustainability, focusing also on regulatory impacts on hydropower management and river restoration.

Choose from a variety of exciting fieldtrips in and around Vienna, such as boating in the National Park, visiting a swimming in-situ fish conservation boat or seeing unique large-scale restoration measures, or take an overnight trip to flagship hydropower facilities in the Austrian Alps.

SUSHP 2025 promotes international networking, connecting researchers, practitioners, stakeholders, and governmental authorities in the heart of Europe. We offer an exciting social program, including an entertaining welcome event, a conference dinner in a traditional Viennese wine tavern, and opportunities for guided city tours.

Call for Abstracts

Guidelines for abstract submission
  • Abstracts must be submitted exclusively through the Online Submission Form.
  • The abstract, including author names and affiliations, should be entered directly into the provided text boxes.
  • Authors must select the most relevant topic and theme for their abstract.
  • A presentation preference (oral or poster) should be indicated; however, the Scientific Committee reserves the final decision on presentation format.
  • The abstract must not exceed 300 words, and the title no more than 20 words. The abstract should be structured as follows:
    • Context and need: Clearly define the background and significance of the study.
    • Approach and methods: Outline the methodology used in the research.
    • Main results: Summarize the key findings (typically 2-3 points).
    • Wider implications and relevance to management or policy: Synthesize the key messages and be generic, seminal, and accessible to non-specialists.
  • Each author may submit a maximum of two abstracts.
  • Only one author may serve as the presenting author.
  • To be included in the conference program, the presenting author of an accepted abstract must complete full registration by 30 June 2025.
  • A special issue in a scientific journal (journal to be determined) will be published in connection with the conference.
  • Authors can indicate during the submission process if they would like their full paper to be considered for this special issue.
  • A submission receipt will be sent automatically to the corresponding author upon successful submission in the online system.
  • If you do not receive a confirmation email, please contact the Technical Secretariat to verify your submission.
For any additional questions, please reach out to the conference organizers.
Deadline for abstract submission is 31 May 2025. The corresponding author will be notified by email regarding the status of the abstract by 20 June 2025.
